3 Hour Tour
Think Gilligans Island theme song without getting stranded on an island.
Monday, September 20, 2021 yup it was HOT & HUMID again today
We took another boat tour this morning this time out in Biscayne Bay, which is actually Biscayne Bay National Park. Again it was relax and informative with 4 passengers and 4 crew, 2 regulars and 2 trainees. I’ll admit the majority of the ride was across the bay or along mangrove shore line where you can’t see anything inland.
However we did stop at a never functioning tower/lighthouse built by some mega rich guy back in the 30’s 0r 40’s as a showoff tower, hey look at me I’m rich, can you see my elephant that I had brought out to the island from the tower. He had a nice little bay dug out for his rich friends to park their yachts when they visited the island, he never lived on the island, just wanted to show off his wealth, kinda like the rich guys flying into space today…….. ok off my soap box for now.
From the tower Mary and I did see a manatee swimming in the really clear water. We had just reached the top and by the time we got the cameras out he was swimming away.
Most of Biscayne Bay is under water, they do have snorkeling tours but having not swam in years I wasn’t sure we would be up for it. If we ever make it this way again rest assured we will do some swimming a head of time and do the snorkeling. From the marina I didn’t think we were missing much but after seeing the clear water from the tower I know it would be interesting. Also all or most of the bay is only 3-12 feet deep.
This summer we’ve stuck our feet in the Pacific Ocean, the Gulf of Mexico and now the Atlantic Ocean.
The End
