North to Alaska— I mean Indiana
Tuesday, September 21 2021 – Not going to mention the heat and humidity for a change!!
We moved about 132 miles today almost all of it due north, the rain held off until not to long before we arrived at the CG then it started raining and didn’t ‘t really stop until after dark. This is a back in site so needless to say we got more than a little damp from unhooking the jeep and getting set up.
The problem with flat ground is it’s flat and when it rains the water had no place to go so it just sits there. The water was level with the top of the mowed grass so anytime you stepped off the pavement, where the water was only about 1/4″ deep, you were standing in water an inch or more deep.
This is a COE park along the Caloosahatchee Canal, pleasure boaters use it, most times to go from the Gulf of Mexico to the Atlantic Ocean and vise versa, by passing through Lake Okeechobee however as we started our walk this morning, the first in a LONG time, we noticed the cab of a small barge moving down stream and out of view.
Did you know that in South Florida durning the rainy season they average more rain durning the summer months than Seattle does all year.
Wednesday, September 22, 2021, the first day of fall – It sure doesn’t feel like fall here!!!!!!!!!!!! I can’t remember the last time I got the chairs out to sit outside, I think it was a few nights before we crossed into Florida.
As you can tell from the title we are headed back towards Indiana.

Thursday, September 23, 2021 Hotter than all get out!!! And don’t get me started on the HUMIDITY!!!!
After a drive of 106 miles with mostly cloudy skies and a few raindrops, the sun came out and the humidity along with the temperature, really cranked up about the time we arrived. Anyway, we’re back in Myakka River State Park for a couple of days, It’s a good thing we stopped here a few weeks ago, the water is way up and roads are closed at the other end of the park and all the trails are under water, so no walking in the woods here this time.
Friday, September 24, 2021 – How HOT is molten volcanic lava? I think we’re hotter than that!
This morning we took a little drive over to Arcadia Fl, it’s about 30 miles away, on the Peace River. Durning the winter when the water is down, it’s flooded right now, you can search for fossils and large shark’s teeth, you just need to keep an eye out for alligators while your looking. We ate lunch in a small park that sits along the river, we thought about trying to camp there but heard it might be flooded, that’s the reason we went back to Myakka, we were the only people in the small park and would have been the only campers in the park if we had stayed there.
When we got back home we took another drive through the park, the water has risen more. The animals must have moved out, while we were down in the Everglades, we haven’t seen any deer or pigs, just a few gators and birds, not nearly as many of those as last time. Of course there is not much for the deer to eat as the water is right next to the road in many places.
