According to Mary’s app thingy that’s how many miles we walked today. That’s considerably further than the 2-3 miles we were thinking about.

The day started with a drive out to Porcupine Mountains State Park and a stop at Lake of the Clouds.

From there we, on the spur of the moment of course, decided to hike to Mirror Lake  3.5 miles away, that’s 7 miles round trip. It was a beautiful coolish day so we felt we could make it.

We were also hopping to maybe catch site of a bear, they had a few signs up about them. While we had the trail mostly to ourselves we didn’t see any or hear any large animal moving through the woods.

We didn’t make it all the way and we still walked 8.25 miles. The trail actually started 1/2 mile down another trail so that’s + 1 mile for the round trip.

Lets just say it ain’t flat, we were getting pretty tired by the time we got to where we could just see the lake through the trees which also just happened to be the 4 mile mark. The problem was we were on top of a ridge, the trail was leading down……………….. Sadly we decided that it would be to much if we went down yet another hill, knowing that we had to hike back the way we came. So we abandoned the idea, took 5 and turned around.

It was probably a good thing we turned around tooooo. The last hill was really steep and we were both exhausted and dragging big time by the time we made it back to the Jeep.

All in all it was a great day, I managed ( read had to) sneak in a nap before we set around the fire with 2 other couples until 11:00 last night.
