Royal Gorge or Royal Gouge
July 15 2021
On the spur of the moment we took off this morning, a little after 10:00, headed for Royal GorgeBridge & Park, it was a little further than I really wanted to drive at around 70 miles away, especially leaving that late, but it was either that or to listen to Mary grumble under her breath all day long.
It’s a tourist trap that is somewhat on the expensive side for my taste but we can sit around and do nothing in tourist trap towns or take a deep breath and slide the credit card into the slot.
We didn’t get there until around noon, again, there were WAY to many people for me, we had to park in the overflow parking lot, with the way it’s laid out we didn’t have to walk tooooo far to get in.
Once we paid, to get in, the first thing we did was get in line for the Gondola Ride across the Arkansas River Gorge. It was way down there to, or we were way up there, however you want to look at it I’m just glad the cable didn’t break. It’s hard to see but there is a train track beside the river.
Then we took the foot bridge back across and that was about it. If it had been much warmer I guarantee you I would have lodged my complaint about the heat but it was mostly bearable with bright sunshine
They also had a zip line across the gorge and on the other side they had some kind of swing set up to kinda swing you out over the gorge, both with an additional fee of course.

On the way back we followed part of the Gold Belt Trail, this took us up into the mountains and through the high altitude town of Cripple Creek, we didn’t stop in town and I don’t know what they are building but if the crane(s) are any indication of size it’s going to be huge, they have 2-3 blocks under construction.
Around Cripple Creek, I was saddened to see the majestic mountain tops devoid of any signs of vegetation, stripped bear of even any dirt, they have been scraped clean looking for precious minerals (gold).
On the way home we grabbed some groceries, by the time I carried in the last bag it was starting to sprinkle, later it really poured for a few minutes, they need the rain here but the rain kept me from getting a few things organized in the Jeep in preparation for moving in the morning.
The End
