Tourist Traps
July 14, 2021
We’re near Colorado Springs and there are several interesting things to do in the area, unfortunately, from my point of view they are mostly tourist traps. We did go to the Manitou Cliff Dwellings & Museum this morning. Unknowing the price, it wasn’t to unreasonable but we were only there for probably less than an hour. We were going to go to a couple of other things, but after researching the price and what there was to do, we decided that we didn’t get enough bang for the buck. So we passed on Seven Falls & Cave of the Wind. Opted instead, for a walk in Red Rock Canyon. With rain in the forecast for later today and with the hail yesterday we decided not press our luck and stay out to long, I might melt if I get rained on and that hail probably wouldn’t feel so good, but we did ended up walking around 2 miles.
One thing we have decided is we don’t like crowds, the park is kinda in town and there were a lot of people there, leaving there we headed over to Garden of the Gods, it’s a free park, again in town. There were so many people we didn’t even bother getting out of the Jeep, disappointed, we just headed back home.
This stay has confirmed that we MUCH prefer being off the beaten path with fewer people around. Looking for things to do I looked online about taking the Cog Rail to the top of Pikes Peak tomorrow, it turns out there are no seats available, my original plan was to just show up, glad I decided to check ahead of time.
We’ll probably try to do better avoiding larger cities and more populated area, sticking to the middle of no where places. But I will admit Pikes Peak was a big draw for me to come to Colorado Springs.

Red Rock Canyon, we could have stayed longer but there was little but there was no protection had it started raining or dropping some hail.
