Independence Rock
July 7 2021.
First, let me get this off my chest, it was HOT!!! I know, I know stop complaining, Mary tells me that all the time! She also tells me I never listen to her, so I just ignore her.
We drove out to Independence Rock this morning, it’s about 55 miles from a common place to cross the North Platte River here in Casper, it wasn’t as an isolated rock outcrop as I expected it to be from my prospective personally I don’t know how they identified it from other rocks around.
It was interesting, we didn’t walk to the top, no signs either way, so I guess we cold have but now at least we didn’t add out foot steps to the ware and tear on the rock.
They do have a path all the way around the rock which we took, I’m not going to call the misquotes bad or anything like that, but on 2 separate occasions they tried to carry me away, I think they wanted to make me their own living, private, sweet & tasty, blood bank.
On their last viscous attack Mary had to grab my ankles as they started to carry me away and the skeeters were lifting both of us off the ground, Mary’s feet were a couple of feet off the ground before I was able to squash enough of them so the rest couldn’t carry me away.
I can’t remember, did I mention it was HOT!!! Anyway, not knowing anything beyond what we could see when we got out of the Jeep we didn’t take any water or a hat with us. Turns out the path around the rock was almost 2 miles, at least the misquotes kept me from thinking about the heat.

Next stop was Pathfinder Reservoir we just drove around and below the dam I just had to drive the 19% grade once I saw the sign. it was a short hill.
The last stop of the day was at the Historical Trails Museum. It was geared more towards kids but it was still very informative.
Once done it was off to home where I hung out inside because it sure was HOT outside.
